Increase Your Workplace Safety with Exhaust Gas Analyzers

If you use forklifts or tow motors in your facility then you need to be aware of the threats posed by these extremely helpful, but potentially harmful, machines.

Forklifts and tow motors powered with internal combustion engines can cause high levels of combustion by-product gases, including carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), to accumulate in enclosed work areas. This can put your employees at potential and significant health risks.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is toxic to humans when it is encountered in concentrations above 35 parts per million.

Eliminate Carbon Monoxide Poisoning with Exhaust Gas Analyzers

If carbon monoxide is encountered above these levels, it can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon Monoxide poisoning manifests itself through various symptoms, including: headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, seizure, and even death in extreme cases.

In addition, an excess of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) in the air can lead to a variety of respiratory problems, including discomfort and shortness of breath.

Because these exhaust gases are not able to be perceived with the senses, it is imperative that you have a means of detecting them in place. This is especially the case if you are using your forklifts or tow motors in an enclosed or partially enclosed environment.

While there are many CO and NOx detectors available on the market that you should use to measure ambient levels of these potentially harmful gases, we would also highly recommend that you use one of our Exhaust Gas Analyzers to routinely monitor the exhaust gas levels of your forklifts directly.

By monitoring your forklifts and tow motors directly— at the source of the exhaust— you will be better able to prevent a possible CO or NOx poisoning situation from occurring, ensuring the health and safety of your workforce.
