Our MAP Tri-Gas Analyzers are used by the biggest meat producers in the world, including: Cargill, Tyson Foods, JBS, Ledbetter, National Beef Packaging, and Smithfield. We designed our MAP Tri-Gas Analyzers to help our customers measure the headspace gas in their meat packaging in order to keep their QC process at its best, and deliver the best possible product to their customers, no matter the situation.
In normal circumstances our meat industry customers have two main types of customer: food-service and retail, and each type gets about half of the meat that the above companies produce. But do to the COVID-19 crisis— and the subsequent shutdown of most restaurants as well as the shelter-in-place edicts— restaurants don’t need nearly as much meat as they used to, while more people than ever are cooking most of their meals in their own homes. Because of this the large meat companies— such as the ones listed above— are shifting the majority of their production efforts away from the food-service side of their business and toward the retail sector of their business in order to meet the growing demand of all of us who have been relegated to cooking all of our meals at home.
While this is a major change for the meat industry, the key meat producers are doing a very good job at pivoting their quality control, supply chain, and distribution processes to accommodate this shift in customer demand; and our MAP Tri-Gas Analyzers are helping them make sure their quality control stays up to par.
Dean Banks, president of Tyson Foods, commented on this shift in a recent blog post saying that there is no meat shortage in America at the current time, and the challenge simply lies in moving meat products to the places they’re needed most.
Tyson, as well as the other meat companies, have changed over a great portion of their production facilities to accommodate the current demand made by the retail sector. In a company statement, Tyson cited the flexibility of the company’s operating model as a key element in making the changeover from food-service to retail sector, quickly and efficiently.
Whether the products our customers deliver go to restaurants or grocery stores, we are proud to help our meat customers continue to deliver high quality meat to their retail customers in this time of transition.
