How a Little "Sticky Nickel" is the Key to Quality Control

Maintaining the integrity of headspace gas during the sampling process is key to a valid, trustworthy analysis.

In order to measure the concentration of the constituents of headspace gas (O2, CO2, CO, etc), it is crucial that the integrity of the headspace gas in the package be maintained while a gas sample is being taken from it and transported into the analyzer for measurement.

The headspace gas in the package most often loses its integrity due to air intrusion that enters the package when the package is being pierced by the sample needle.

Improve Headspace Gas Analysis with a Septum: The Magic of a Sticky, Little, Black, Foam Dot

The difficulty of taking a quality sample of headspace gas is often a function of the characteristics of the package from which the sample is being taken. To ensure that a good sample is taken it is important to understand how the characteristics of the package will affect the headspace gas as the sample is being taken. If the package characteristics are not taken into consideration prior to sampling the headspace gas, the likelihood that considerable measurement errors will occur due to insufficient volume or integrity of the headspace gas being sampled greatly increases.

Septum technology for better headspace gas analysis

Bridge Septum Technology ensures that the integrity of headspace gas is maintained during the sampling process

One way to ensure that the integrity of the headspace gas you are sampling is not compromised is to use our Bridge septa while taking a gas sample. Our septa are used to seal the needle puncture area when performing modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) sample testing. Use of a septum while drawing a sample prevents air from entering the inside of the package during testing while also helping to ensure that an accurate sample of MAP gas is taken.

Our black gold septa have features including instant adhesion even in moist environments while also having the capability of being easily removed immediately after a sample test concludes. The pressure sensitive adhesive that we use on our septa was specifically selected for this unique application.

Remember, maintaining the integrity of headspace gas during the sampling process is key to a valid, trustworthy analysis. Use our septa and you can make sure that your sampling process is foolproof.
